We are honored to be among those awarded a Community Wood Energy and Wood Innovation Program grant through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This grant marks a significant step in advancing sustainable and innovative practices within the wood products sector.
The Community Wood Grant Program, administered by the USDA, aims to provide crucial funding for projects installing thermally led community wood energy systems or constructing pioneering wood product manufacturing facilities. In line with the Forest Service's commitment to environmental responsibility, the program emphasizes the use of the most stringent control technologies in renewable wood energy systems.
Particularly noteworthy is the program's emphasis on supporting sawmills in economically challenged areas. Crosswood, with its dedication to technological advancement, finds alignment with the program's goal of assisting such mills to retool or integrate advanced technologies.
The awarded funds will be directed towards shovel-ready projects, focusing on the installation of a community wood energy system or the establishment of an innovative wood product facility. These initiatives not only bolster forest health but also stimulate local economies by expanding renewable wood energy capacity and fostering innovative wood products manufacturing.
The mission of Crosswood aligns seamlessly with the USDA's broader initiative, announced in June 2023, wherein over $43 million is to be invested to expand innovative uses of wood. The diverse applications encompass using wood as a construction material in commercial buildings, as a sustainable energy source, and as a vital component in manufacturing processes for various wood products.
Crosswood extends its gratitude to the USDA for recognizing and supporting endeavors that not only drive technological innovation but also contribute to the sustainability and economic vitality of our local and national communities.
