In a significant stride towards excellence in hardwood mass timber solutions, Crosswood proudly announces the successful completion of in-house testing conducted in collaboration with Stiles/Kallesoe Machinery. The focus of this testing was to validate the adhesive bond strength of hardwood yellow poplar boards.
Comprehensive Testing Protocols
The testing regimen encompassed a meticulous evaluation of several critical factors:
1. Glue Spread Rate: Assessing the uniformity and coverage of the adhesive application on the yellow poplar boards.
2. RF Power: Ensuring that the Radio Frequency (RF) settings are precisely calibrated to achieve the desired bonding strength.
3. Glueline Target Temperature: Verifying that the adhesive reaches and maintains the optimum temperature for creating a robust bond.
4. Top and Side Pressures: Evaluating the applied pressures from both the top and side to ascertain consistent and effective bonding.
5. Open and Close Assembly Times: Assessing the efficiency of the assembly process, focusing on the times required for opening and closing during production.
Exemplary Adhesive Bond
The results of these tests unequivocally affirm the exceptional adhesive bond achieved with hardwood yellow poplar boards. The meticulous attention to detail in the RF settings ensures that the mass timber solutions produced meet and exceed industry standards.
Visual Insights Through Photos
Accompanying this article are insightful photographs that offer a glimpse into the testing procedures. From glue spread precision to the intricate dance of RF power, the included photos serve as a visual testament to the dedication that is continuously being invested in perfecting the adhesive bond for yellow poplar boards.
A Vision for the Future
As Crosswood continues to advance hardwood mass timber solutions. These successful testing outcomes validate previous University research on utilizing hardwoods in the production of CLT panels.
More testing is being conducted that will validate the finger joining geometry required for the effective bonding of hardwood yellow poplar boards for the production of hardwood CLT. This will be one of the final tests conducted prior to finalizing Crosswood’s hardwood mass timber press line equipment for order.
